Clinical observation of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome in Children

Abstract
|
|
|
A clinical study of 20 cases of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, who were admitted to the Pediatric Department of Pusan National University Hospital during the period of 12 years from January, 1980 through December, 1991 was made.
The results are summarized as follows :
1. The incidence was high(70%) at the age of 6~15 and low(15%) under the age of 1. The sex ratio of male to female was 4 : 1
It occurred frequently in summer and winter.
2. Cardinal symptoms and signs on admission were skin lesion(100%), fever(65%), oral lesion(55%), conjunctivitis(40%), and anogenital lesion(40%).
3. Leukocytosis(10,000§§ over) was found in 20%, mild increased ESR(30§®/hr over) in 30%, and proteinuria in 15%.
Pathohistologic finding of erythema multiforme in skin biopsy was observed in 77%.
4. The most common previous disease was URI(75%).
There was history to ingest drug for common cold in 50% and duration of disease onset was 3~5 days(80%) and hospital days were 1~2 weeks 970%).
The mortality rate was 5%.
